The golden rules of perfect hands

- Always (absolutely always!) use rubber gloves when doing housework.
- Always carry a nail file with you in your handbag. This way you will be ready to handle small breaks right away before they become large.
- Use moisturizer after every hand-washing.
- Drink water. This is an important factor which few people consider and even fewer keep. You should drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Water transports nutrients throughout the body and rids it of toxins. Nails, as well as hair, are made out of keratin – an ingredient in protein. The strength of hair and nails depends on the presence of sulfur in the amino acids which form the keratin. And last, but not least, water and fat molecules can be found in the nails between the keratin cells. They give the nails their gentle pink color and shine. This is why daily consumption of enough water is so essential for nail care.
- A healthy, balanced diet, containing a large amount of fruits and vegetables is also a good start. It will provide the body with the vitamins and minerals it needs for inner health and outer beauty. Some vitamins and minerals directly affect the way our nails look. For example – vitamins A and B are needed for strength, calcium for hardness. Folic acid makes the nails flexible; biotin is needed for their growth, while fatty acids give them smoothness, luster and beauty.

Feet are a big part of pedicure

Warm foot bath
To prevent the skin on your feet from becoming rough or your heels from cracking, you will have to make time to give them some TLC at least once every two weeks. Treat them to a 20 minute warm bubble bath with a sponge stone or foot rub to remove the hardened cells. Dry your feet and rub them with olive oil. In 15 minutes dab the excess oil. Do not wash the rest of it away with soap.
One-week mask
Add one teaspoon of honey to one package of beauty clay. Mix with a little water to form a creamy substance. Apply this mask to your heels every evening. Cover with a piece of cotton and put on cotton socks. Follow up with Vaseline containing bees wax. Do this for a week and your heels will feel the effect.
The latest tendencies for sharp manicure
Image:© vladstar/ Fotolia
Sharp nails first appear in the 80s and were then popular among the working class – mostly among secretaries and typists. During the 90s they undergo a transformation becoming part of the image of the vamp-woman – sharp red nails, long enough to sink into any man’s back.
Colors
The colors most suitable for sharp nails today are red, black and white, gray, blue and purple. You can experiment with brighter colors, but be careful – the line between eccentricity and caricature is very thin. For best results you can turn to a specialist who will shape your nails and choose the color which suits you most.
This nail shape is very good for applications, piercing, gem incrustations and all kinds of other fashionable manicure details.

How to deal with the problem of cracked nails
Beautiful nails which are regularly cared for always inspire admiration. If nail care is not consistent, the nails soon become fragile and start breaking or cracking.
What can cause cracking of the nails?
The main and most widespread reason for nail cracks is the unhealthy diet. Your daily menu should include foods rich in vitamins C, A and B12 as well as minerals such as calcium. Often cracking is induced by a deficiency of iron and biotin, which you can supply by consuming more bananas, mushrooms and egg yolk.
Another reason for cracking is that the nails do not get enough moisture. This is usually typical for people also suffering from extremely dry skin. To alleviate this problem make sure to regularly hydrate your hands and nails with moisturizing products. You can also use essential oils by placing presoaked cotton balls on your nails for a few minutes 2 or 3 times every day.
One more reason can be found in improper nail care. Your nail care must be based on educated decisions which take into consideration your skin and nail type, because otherwise in an effort to improve your nails, you may actually harm them.
Menopause is another source of nail cracking, since it brings many changes in the female body, one of which is decreasing the strength of the nail plates.
And of course last but not least – never bite your nails. If they need a trim or a quick fix, use the proper tools. Never try to smooth out a broken nail with your teeth.
Dry manicure
Every stylish lady must coordinate her dress with her jewelry, makeup and manicure. While the standard procedure for manicure is well known to all ladies, women of business have no time for prolonged hand care. This is why they prefer the safe dry manicure. In dry manicure hands are not soaked in water and cuticles are not clipped away. It is much simpler and here is how it’s done.
Apply cuticle softener to the base of the nail bed of each finger. Use a wooden spatula to gently push the cuticle toward the base of the nail. Apply nail polish and when it dries use a special lotion which prevents cuticle growth. In a few procedures you will learn to love and maybe also prefer dry manicure yourself.
